Long-lasting Games that Only Get Better Online

Classic Video Games

Over time, there have been a handful of games that have really stuck with us culturally. Some of the old classics still get played all the time to this day. They just won’t disappear!

It’s hard to say exactly what it takes for a game to become a timeless classic. They’re often individual, exciting, and just super cool. In fact, some of these games have actually gotten better over the years when rebooted and brought into the online domain.

So, we’re going to be having a look at a few of them today. We’re about to present you with some of the most played games of all time that have become even more played since they were taken online. If you haven’t tried the updated version of all these yet, you’re certainly going to want to buy them by the time you’ve finished this article!

Space Invaders

Of course, we have to start with Space Invaders. When it was released all the way back in 1978, it went down as an instant classic. Anyone who could get their hands on it was unable to stop playing!

Throughout the 44+ years of its existence, it doesn’t seem to have faded much in terms of how much people love it. Since it was rebooted and brought online, it’s more accessible now than ever. It really is all over the place.

You can play Space Invaders on a smartphone, on a desktop browser, and more, and you’ll often find it to be free of charge. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to boot up Space Invaders for a blast from the past. Literally.

If you somehow haven’t played Space Invaders before, the aim of the game is to take your spaceship through space, shooting down aliens as you go. Watch out though, they’re slowly getting closer, so your time is limited. They’re going to be shooting projectiles at you too! So, watch out for those. It’s a lot of fun, this one.

This is easily one of the best alien invasion games ever.

DOOM Eternal – Official Launch Trailer

DOOM

Horror game DOOM is not for the faint-hearted. It’s been terrifying people since its initial release in 1993 and goes down as one of the first real horror games. Nowadays, it looks a little dated, but back then it was cutting edge and had the ability to really freak some people out.

All the games in the DOOM series are first-person shooters (FPS). Back in 1993, this was relatively rare and now this is one of the most popular forms of the game. So, you could say DOOM was a bit of a trendsetter in that respect.

In 2020, DOOM was brought back for the latest game in the saga, DOOM Eternal. A lot of people were skeptical about whether a DOOM reboot would do justice to the original, but it actually received rave reviews. The critics loved it!

You can play DOOM Eternal on Steam and a few consoles, so check it out when you get the chance. Just maybe not while you’re alone in the dark if you’re planning on sleeping anytime soon after…

Mortal Kombat

The first-ever Mortal Kombat was released into the arcade world back in 1992 and was received with huge excitement from fans. Since then, there have been tons of versions of the game to play. Some are free online, whereas the more powerful ones will need to be paid for on a console of some variety.

Some people are actually really good at Mortal Kombat, but a lot of us do tend to just ‘button mash’ to get by. Either way, it’s still a lot of fun to play, especially if you’re up against your friends in a multiplayer situation.

Mortal Kombat is by no means the only platform fighting game you can choose from. There are also games such as Street Fighter and Tekken to check out. They’re all awesome and worth a play if you’re into this genre of game.

Last thoughts on the classics to play online

The beauty of online internet games is that they’re free to play online. You can find a free version of any of the three games we’ve chosen today, or any other classic game if you look hard enough.

If you really do love the games, you can often pay for a higher quality version for your console of choice. Have fun with whatever version you choose.
