Apogee Entertainment has announced that it will be publishing Residual, a space survival platformer coming to PC and consoles in Q3 2021. Developed by Orangepixel, the game features retro graphics designed to bring a unique visual style to players.
In a forgotten galaxy full of strange planets, a lone explorer crash-lands on one with an ancient alien secret. Venture forth from the shipwreck across a harsh, unpredictable, procedurally generated world. Harvest food and make campfires to stay alive. Craft science-fiction survival tools like teleporters and mining devices. Unearth alien technology capable of repairing the ship. Hunger, cosmic storms, hostile plant life and the mysterious ooze are among the many obstacles you’ll face.
According to the Steam page, players will also be accompanied by a “snarky floating Personal Disaster Bot” that will follow and assist throughout the game. It can help discover interesting and useful lore about each planet and more.
Developers promise thousands of unique planets that are designed by the proprietary Nature Engine. The planets are designed from a set of environment-based rules before players are dropped in to “a world brimming with potential”. Players will also face off against environmental features and factors that can affect survivability.
