On June 10, 2022, we got an announcement that came out of left field. A new title is coming out in the world of Middle Earth, Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. From this point out you need to speak nerd and enter.

The time has come. We finally return to Kazad-Dum to reclaim the Mines of Moria. This time we are in the fourth age of Middle Earth and the time to vanquish the goblins in the mines has comes. The trailer shows us glimpses of the old world made new. One thing I noticed is that the character models seem very in line with the Lord of the Rings Online character models, at least from first glance.

This title is joining the family of survival crafting games that are out there currently. The fact that we get to play as Dwarves rebuilding one of their ancient homes will keep me playing this for a long time. The lore is so rich in Tolkien’s world that this has to be good, otherwise there will be some pretty upset fans.

“We at Free Range Games are absolutely thrilled to finally reveal The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria,”said Chris Scholz, CEO of Free Range Games. “J.R.R. Tolkien and all of his creations within Middle-earth are near and dear to our hearts, and this project presents an amazing opportunity to create new experiences born from one of the greatest stories ever told. We are pouring a lot of passion into the game to give players an unforgettable experience.”

As the story goes, Gimli, son of Gloin, familiar to fans as the friend of Legolas, has called for Dwarves to return to Moria. The lost spoils must be reclaimed. As you can see in the trailer below there are sections that show you building up what looks like a house or base. From the basic looks I have a feeling it will tell a story that we will love. The release date was simply Spring 2023.
