It’s the perfect thing to wake up to on a Monday morning. Netflix, Wizards of the Coast, and the Russo Brothers have revealed that they are working on an animated series based on Magic: The Gathering.
There are few other details known at this time. However, we do know that talented personnel will be on hand to make the series the best it can be. Creative talent already on board has worked on iconic animated series including Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man, Firefly and Star Wars: Clone Wars to name a few. In addition, Anthony and Joe Russo are most recently known for producing both Avengers Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War. In short, it is a stellar cast bringing the series to life.
“More fans are enjoying Magic now than at any time in its 25-year history thanks to the enduring popularity of the tabletop game and our latest release War of the Spark, as well as the incredible success of our new digital game, Magic: The Gathering Arena.” said Chris Cocks, President of Wizards of the Coast. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Joe and Anthony Russo to bring Magic: The Gathering’s rich and diverse cast of characters and worlds to Netflix in a way that will delight our many fans and those new to the franchise.”
Magic: The Gathering has arguably been the world’s most successful collectible card game. Debuting in 1993, MtG became a hit with fans around the world and has spawned a number of expansions and, later, online video games. Most recently, MtG launched onto the esports scene in Magic: The Gathering Arena.
We’ll keep you posted as more information is announced.
