Meet Flea! A New Game for NES and DreamCast

It’s been a long time coming but The NES and Dreamcast just got a brand new game, and it’s called Flea.

Heading to the Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Dreamcast, as well as Pc via Steam and itch.io, Flea is a hardcore retro platformer and it’s out now. Launching today, Flea is the work of Lowtek Games, a one-man indie studio that seems set on filling a few gaps in your retro back catalogue rather than cracking out the Ray Tracing cud cores. The Studio’s new title, Flea, is the result of a Kickstarter campaign that was over 200% funded. Now you can simply grab a copy.

What Is Flea?

Flea is a hardcore retro 2D platformer, designed with an intriguing back story. Play as Henry the Hyperactive Flea who just can’t stop jumping! Navigate the beasts and collect blood to get the heart of the problems. Of course, being Flea, you’ll be picking up blood and working your way through a multitude of environments, encountering new and exotic characters like tapeworms. This is a flea after all!

Alastair Low, Head of Lowtek Games, notes that “I grew up playing the NES and always wanted to make a game for it. Then NESmaker came along, it’s a wiziwig-esk NES development software. I had the Flea idea many years before but thought its simple mechanics would be achievable on the NES”.

This might not quite be the same as the return of Sega’s Alex Kidd but it’s just as cool for those of you old enough to own an NES. For the rest of us who were stuck with a Master System, you can still grab Flea on PC over on the Steam Store page now. Check out the Lowtek Games website to find out where you can grab it on Physical NES Cartridge, Physical Dreamcast Disc. Also, Evercade in the future.
