Most Anticipated MMORPGs Still Coming In 2021

MMORPG

MMORPGs are dead! Long live MMORPGs! We’ll probably never see an MMORPG reach the popularity World of Warcraft garnered in the mid-2000s, but the genre is far from dead. Even before flocked to MMOs in 2020, the top games were doing just fine. It has been a while though since a new MMORPG release created anything more than a flash in the pan, but the second half of 2021 could change that. With several MMOs expected to release before the end of the year, which one of these highly anticipated MMORPGs is going to earn your patronage?

Swords Of Legends Online

The first MMORPG on this list has just entered the newbie zone. Swords of Legends Online was recently released on July 9, bringing us a beautiful world with a story steeped in Chinese mythology. Each of the six classes can be geared up for two roles, giving you the option to switch between roles to fit the needs of your current mission.

Fans of ARPGs are probably waiting for Lost Ark to complete its voyage to the West. Already released in Korea, engage in chaotic action-based combat with five classes using swords, sorcery, pistols and rifles to get your feet wet before picking one of three advanced specializations for each class.

Elyon

Set to release at an unannounced date later this year, Elyon is another Eastern MMO making its way to North America and Europe. Hoping to cater to both PvE and PvP fans, Elyon has content to appease both player bases. Pre-orders go on sale July 26, with a second Closed Beta expected in August.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker

  • Developer: Square Enix
  • Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4
  • NA/EU Release Date: November 23, 2021

FFXIV may not be new, but with Endwalker being the last installment of the original A Realm Reborn storyline, there are probably as many players chomping at the bit to play the 8 year old MMO as much as any other title on this list. FFXIV also recently received an overhaul to its opening chapter to help reduce the grind and get players deeper into the plot quicker than ever before. With two new jobs and a level cap increase from 80 to 90, Endwalker is sure to be a favorite with all players, new and old alike.
