Walt Disney Studios shared the first teaser trailer for the upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion King, coming to theaters December 20. New and familiar faces come to the screen to tell a tale of a lion who would change our lives forever. The film mixes live-action film-making techniques with photoreal computer-generated imagery for a stunning visual.
“Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.
The announcement was met with mixed reactions. While some viewers have expressed the desire for a 2D animation instead of computer-generated photorealistic 3D, others yet worry about the potential retcon coming to the story of the beloved classic.
