MultiVersus Is Plannig To Rework Hitboxes

MultiVersus might only be a few weeks old, but this cartoon brawler is already set to get a hitbox overhaul.

While we’ve all been busy duking it out with Scooby Doo and Arya Stark, the team behind the brand-new Smash style brawler MultiVersus is set to get improvements to the systems that control hit and hurtboxes. In a conversation on social media, sotted bit the eagle eyes at VGC, it seems Game Director Tony Huynh has confirmed that the development team are:

Working on a big overhaul of our hitbox/hurtbox system

The discussion seems to have kicked off due to a fan’s request for balance changes to Finn. As a character, the Adventure Time headliner might not seem like an epic first choice. However, it seems that when facing The Iron Giant, Finn felt very unbalanced for this player.

For those that haven’t been watching the Evo tournaments of late, hit and hurtboxes are used in many games, but become incredibly important in fighters like MultiVersus, Smash, and Tekken. They determine and control collision detection, essentially meaning when you can hurt and can be hurt during an encounter with Batman and the Mystery Machine.

This sort of tweaking isn’t entirely unexpected, however. MultiVersus is a brand new multiplayer 2D brawler. After leaping into open beta during July and incorporating many WB franchise characters, it’s been host to numerous animated battles across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Right now, you can jump into the Multi versus open beta and try your luck, or just find out more about what exactly is going on with this odd assembly of superheroes and Saturday morning TV shows via the official website.
