Last spring, Paramount Studios released the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie with a terrifying CGI version of everyone’s favorite speedy mammal. Critics called it “a 200 mph slap in the face” and that Sonic “resembles a cheap knock-off toy your child might win at a fairground stand and then be terrified of”.
As a result of this and other vociferous criticism from fans and professional media, the movie’s director, Jim Fowler, was forced to take the film back to the drawing board.
Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast ?✌️

With the redesign seemingly complete, Fowler and Paramount have released a new trailer for the upcoming movie that shows off Sonic’s new look. Judge for yourself.
For fans, the good news is that the film is now set for release on February 14, 2020 — just in time for that special Valentines’ Day date!
