The developers of Amazon’s MMORPG New World have released a new update from the developers dedicated to the May Alpha. The team is extremely excited as the game approaches its Closed Beta test planned for July 20th.
In the last few months, the developers’ focus has been on adding new features and content to the game. Following the May Alpha release, the team will be looking at the bugs, polish, performance, and diving deep into balance to deliver a quality experience at launch.
“We are extremely grateful for the support and enthusiasm the New World community continues to show. It is humbling and encouraging. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish in the past year. We have been busy adding new zones like Reekwater and Ebonscale, new weapons and weapon skill trees, we have overhauled crafting, reworked questing and added voiceover. We have added Fishing, Duels, Expeditions, Outpost Rush, new creatures, and enhanced UI, and made countless other important improvements to make us ready for our August launch.”
Meanwhile, the game’s fans at Reddit are distressed at the possibility of New World turning pay-to-win (P2W) with its in-game shop. The company admitted it may sell quality-of-life items or boosts that will help players improve their time spent leveling up their character and trade skill experience.

We are aware that there are concerns around the storefront testing currently in Alpha. To be clear, at launch all of the items in the shop will be focused on cosmetics. There will be no boosts of any type for sale at launch. We will share more on our vision for MTX soon.
