Niantic is ready to pull out all the stops in celebration of the first birthday of Pokemon Go. A new blog post on the site teases out an in-game event and several planned live events. In addition, devs tease new cooperative content.
Niantic & Pokemon Go’s first birthday
Summer 2017 seems like it will be a great one for trainers. Here is what is in store for Pokemon hunters.
The Solstice Event will begin on June 13th and run for about a week. During those seven days, trainers will be able to more easily find Fire and Ice Pokemon as well as get big XP bonuses for accurate Poke Ball tosses.
It’s what comes after that is intriguing. While short on details the developer blog teases “new collaborative group game play features that will get you playing Pokemon Go in fun new ways”. Until the update launches, and at the close of the Solstice Event, Poke Gyms will be offline. Will we finally see team-based battles among trainers and 1v1 duels? We certainly hope so!
Lastly, the company has a number of “live” events planned around the world:
- Pokemon Go Fest Chicago will take place on July 22nd in Grant Park. The event site and ticket sales will go live on June 19th.
- Several live events will be held in Europe between June and September. These are being held in cooperation with Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers. More will be announced soon.
- The Pokemon Company will sponsor a special Pikachu Outbreak Event in Japan as well as providing “a unique Pokemon Go experience”. More details will be revealed soon.
As you can see, it’s a busy summer for Trainers. Be sure to check out the full post on the Pokemon Go site.
