Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct pulled back the curtain on over 30 games, a ton of announcements and a PlayStation icon to the Nintendo Switch.
When Nintendo announced the latest Direct showcase, we expected some surprises. We didn’t expect updates on outings for Zelda, Mario & Luigi, Donkey Kong, an adorable kitty cat. and Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy. The regular direct to consumer showcase from Nintendo dropped a ton of trailers and news for upcoming games, including LEGO Horizon Adventures.
While you can check out everything coming to Nintendo Switch owners in the full length direct here, our highlights include:
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
Putting the power in the hands of Zelda, this upcoming adventure sees the people of Hyrule are being stolen away by strange rifts. With Link missing, players must help Princess Zelda team up with the mysterious fairy, Tri, and use the power of the Tri Rod to learn how to create echoes. These imitations of real-world objects allow Zelda to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles to hopefully save the world. With an emphasis on a different aesthetic and gameplay approach to what Link fans might expect The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is due for release on 26th September.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Due to come stomping on small and big screen on 16th January 2025, the return of a classic adventure means lots of monkeying around. Players can help Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong recover their precious banana hoard from the villainous Tiki Tak Tribe in an upscaled adventure. Return to familiar locations, grab BANANAS, and take on 2-player local co-op on the return of this platforming masterpiece.
Stray
Lost, alone and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten city. Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed, neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments. After an initial release on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, this unexpected feline escapade is due to come to Nintendo Switch later in 2024.
LEGO Horizon Adventures
Aloy is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Join machine hunter Aloy as she leads a colorful crew of heroes through the lush wilderness on a quest to save the world and learn the secrets of her past but build it in LEGO. Already announced for other platforms, the Nintendo Direct revealed that the bricktale built around the world or Horizon Zero Dawn will allow players to explore the much-loved world of Horizon and come face-to-face with the game’s awe-inspiring machines – all faithfully recreated in LEGO bricks. Take a look at the trailer and prepare for a very different adventure in Winter 2024.
Super Mario Party Jamboree
Yet another Mario party is being planned for 17th October 2024. The news that Super Mario Party Jamboree will hit Switch soon means players looking for a bit of chaotic competitive play can play through more than 110 minigames. Through Goomba Lagoon, Rainbow Galleria Western Land, Mario’s Rainbow Castle, and more players can even try out a series-first 20-player online competition. Party time!
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
While it won’t land until 2025, the latest Samus styled adventure in this sci-fi series definitely caught our attention. With little information on the upcoming missions, the trailer gives us most of the detail. What is evident, is a mix of 2.5D action platforming, some FPS style action and a whole new bunch of enemies to overcome. Check out the action above before it arrives in 2025.
While these are just some of the highlights from the Nintendo Direct, you can catch all the detail in the official run down and let us know what you’re looking forward to.
