Nintendo Switch Day One Patch adds online features, physical games don’t require install

Play Zelda while you wait for the online stuff...
Switch Outsells Every Nintendo Console's Early Sales

The Nintendo Switch day one patch adds online features, we’ve been told by Nintendo. This makes sense, of course, considering this new console is supposed to be more “online than ever” when it comes to a Nintendo system. Friend codes and all that are gone too, so it seems likely that Nintendo is finally getting on board with the way things are done with online for consoles.

But what will you be doing when you download that day one patch for your shiny new system? Well there’s more good news going around the web today – the physical games (the ones that you actually have to buy from stores and put into your system, like some archaic form of witchcraft) will not require installs. Yes, that means you’ll be able to play Zelda: Breath of the Wild while you wait for the online stuff to be added.

Rejoice in the glory of tiny-cartridge based gaming! Don’t forget to take a look at the online Indie titles you’ll be able to download, once that online stuff is sorted.

  1. No install on games is pretty good. I just hope they get a better line up of games for this system. The Wii-U was a disappointment.

    • If I had a Wii U, I’d not be buying a Switch at launch, I’d just buy Zelda on the Wii U. I’m (hopefully) investing in the long term of the system. Love the concept, and that Indies are on board.

      • We have a WiiU and we’re not getting a Switch right away. We like having the gamepad to use while playing. I want to see where Nintendo goes with this before jumping in.
