NIS, the publisher that is bringing Disgaea 5 west, has just dropped an opening trailer for the upcoming RPG Monark.
Looking more like an anime opening than a video game teaser, the promo trailer comes in at close to two minutes and gives fans of developer FuRyu’s back catalog a glimpse at what’s to come. Plunging players into a new world where things are a little less than perfect, Monrak is due to arrive across Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation5, and PC in early 2022.
Picking plenty of inspiration from Furyu’s earlier work in games like The Caligula Effect, Monark finds players waking up in a strange school environment. In among the grand old corridors and stately roos something wicked lurks. A mist fills the grounds and it is up to the protagonist and a few remaining classmates to battle their way past the darkness that lies ahead. Part traditional turn based JRPG part psychological horror, this title allows unsuspecting victims of this school to develop bonds between their party, keeping them tethered from the madness while they grow their ego and manifest that power on the battlefield.
If the opening trailer is anything to go by, this could be a darker twist on the other worlds of Persona and potentially worth your time if Resident Evil was possibly a little too action heavy for your tastes. NIS has already opened up pre orders for Monark The Limited Edition version of this title is available on the NIS Store and comes bundled with the following:
