Old School Runescape unwraps a 2023 roadmap, as the Jagex puts a bow on its’ Winter Summit.

Players of the retro incarnation of Runescape are set to get a whole sack full of new content next year, and developer Jagex unveiled a timeline during a recent Winter Summit. Over the course of the next sixth months, adventurers and heroes of all kinds will find a wealth of new content coming to Gielinor, beginning with new quests, skill, and holiday events.

Announced over the weekend, Old School Runescape is set to introduce a sequel to the iconic and beloved 17-year-old quest Desert Treasure. This addition is 17 years in the making and becomes the aptly named Desert Treasure II. Despite the uninspiring title, the epic new addition will challenge players to some of this MMO’s top tier content across four brand new areas of the world. Along the way, deadly new bosses will stand before anybody brave enough to try. Vardorvis, Duke Sucellus, the Leviathan, and the mysterious Whisperer are coming to the Kharidian Desert next year.

Secret of the North

In addition to yet another treasure hunt, the new year will bring a brand-new Master level quest. Secret of the North features a solo-only boss encounter that drops plenty of powerful loot, including an upgrade to the Ancient Potion, an upgrade to the Ancient Staff, and a brand new Venator Bow for all the archers.

All the Rest

For anybody more interested in other game modes, Bounty Hunter return to the arena. Giving players an introduction to the PvP play style, and bounties, of course, this retuning challenge should make life more rewarding for anybody taking their first steps into this gank or be ganked element of the long standing MMORPG.

If that’s far too much blood shed, then felling some trees might help with the expanded Woodcutting craft. Forestry: Way of the Forester will make this a more social experience, retiring resource competition to the past. The intention seems to be to make this staple of the crafting subgame a far more open and communal experience, and a little less like a PvP inducing environment.

While this change might not turn all round gathering into something like Guild Wars 2’s system, it’s a welcome change to the game and could have interesting repercussions for the future of other skills.

While all these changes won’t hit until 2023, Old School Runescape welcomes back Santa for a festive event on 14 December. You can find the party kicking off at The Nutcracker, later this week. To find out what and where this is, check out the official Old School Runescape website now
