Encodya goes mobile today, bringing a melancholic dystopian adventure to iOS and Android devices.
Sometimes cyberpunk doesn’t mean flashing neon lights and blowing gangsters’ brains out. Instead, it can be a quiet exploration of the human condition. Encodya fits firmly into the latter of these descriptions and the gorgeous indie title brings one girl and her robot to small screens today. Set in the grimy back alleys of Neo Berlin, Encodya follows the fate of a youngster abandoned in a city where the world just about clings on as a society slowly creeps to a halt. Along with her guardian, a dumpy looking metallic tank on two legs called SAM-53, protagonist Tina set out to finish the mission her father started.
While the depression gray skies and faceless alleys of a megalopolis might not seem like the most inviting of backdrops, Encodya sets out to free the lifeless megapolis from the clutches of the soulless corporations controlling it. The two central characters will explore a variety of realities full of bizarre robotic creatures and grotesque, corrupt human beings. With more than 100 locations all renders in 2.5D, plenty of puzzles, over 34 eccentric NPCs, and a rating of “Very Positive” review rating on Steam, Encodya might sound subdued, but this narrative title is a fresh change from the heavily monetized online roguelikes that are all to common in mobile platforms.
To coincide with this news, developers Assemble Entertainment dropped a mobile trailer for the dystopian point and click. Players can pick it up on mobile for Available now for £8/49 / €9.99, on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. If you want a bigger screen to play on then Encodya is also available on PC, via Steam and GoG, or on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch for £24.99 / €29.99.
