Overwatch – Symmetra Rework Details

Symmetra

Recently it became known that Blizzard plans on reworking one of Overwatch characters, Symmetra. Previously a part of Support group, she’s being moved into the Defense category. Geoff Goodman took to the forums to explain the changes coming to the heroine and the gameplay.

The maximum amount of Symmetra’s turrets has been reduced to 3 (from 6), but they are stronger and more impactful than before. They can now be deployed differently: instead of manually sticking them to a surface, players will be able to fire an un-deployed turret like a projectile that will stick to a surface and unfold like it does in the live version.

Her Teleporter ability is no longer an ultimate and has been moved to E slot. You can build exit up to 25 meters away, and the entry point will be automatically constructed in front of you. It lasts for a short period of time, but allies can use it freely.

Photon Barrier is her new Ultimate ability. Now Symmetra places a static barrier wall that is effectively infinite in size and has 5000 health.

We’re still trying some things but whats working pretty well right now is her primary fire changed to no longer lock on but works as a straight beam that is fairly thick and has increased range. It still has the potential to gain extra damage by dealing damage like it does now, but instead of going 30/60/120 dps it is currently 65/130/195 dps. However, it now takes a combined 2 seconds of damage to ‘level up’ to the next tier of damage instead of 1 second. This means the weapon has significantly more potential but it is more difficult to get it to max power. Also, when hitting a barrier it currently generates ammo instead of consuming it. This means not only is she good at taking down barriers themselves, but she is good at just generating charge off barriers and using that charge to take down enemies as well.

You can find out more about the changes by visiting the official forums or by checking out Icy-Veins’ summary.
