Owlcat Games to Launch KickStarter for Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Owlcat Games - Pathfinder Kingmaker

In our second bit of news about the Pathfinder IP, we have learned that Owlcat is taking its game to KickStarter. The team is looking for $500,000 to add more to Pathfinder: Kingmaker, an upcoming PC RPG.

Owlcat announced the game last week…but…

While the game was announced last week, no mention was made at the time about KickStarter. Today’s announcement has come as something of a surprise to many. The fund raiser is expected to begin this week.

What is interesting about the initiative is that the company is not looking for money to complete the game, but to add to it. The team wants to add companions and to their stories as well as include new classes, dungeons, events, locations and more.

According to a company representative, “the game will happen”. He further explained that developers want to make a bigger game. With current funds available, that’s just not possible.

GamesBeat spoke to Oleg Shpilchevsky about the project and Kickstarter:

But there’s a big temptation to add a lot of new features and content to the game. The universe is very big, with a lot of reach and depth to it. We can’t squeeze the entire wishlist into the budget we’re currently on. We’d like to ask Pathfinder fans and RPG fans to support us on Kickstarter, which will let us add a lot of additional features. We’ll have more companions, more depth to the companions, more dungeons and wilderness to explore, … and more new quests and content by famous Pathfinder authors and RPG authors.
