Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Describes How Characters Find Their Voices

The developers of cRPG Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous from Owlcat Games have shared a couple of blog posts dedicated to the characters. The team revealed that they consider characters, including players’ companions, to be one of the most crucial components of any RPG. And one of the important steps in bringing these characters to life is finding their voices.

“They are your allies and enemies, they may become your bitterest rivals or your most ardent friends, and sometimes a budding interest in a character may blossom into tender loving affection. A good, memorable character is a team effort that involves narrative designers, game designers, level designers, artists, sound designers, and, of course, voice actors.”

Follow the link above to see an in-depth look at how the whole process works. So, what happens before an actor can bring a character to life?

Firstly, the narrative designers write a document, where they describe the character’s personality. Usually it contains the character’s backgound, gender, age, details, nuances about their attitude and psyche. After this step, the devs look for references to show the voice actors so that they can understand what kind of impression their character should create.

After a voice has been chosen and approved, the recording begins in earnest, followed up by the phenomenal work of Owlcats’ sound engineers who check the voice recordings against the script, picking the most suitable take, go through post-processing, correcting, and more.

Find out more in the second blog post that features Tom Wayland, voice director from 3Beep studio and the voice of Lann.
