As reported earlier on MMORPG.com, Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity 2 crosses the $3 Million mark on Fig. Though there are still a couple of days left, the game smashed its goal, and amassed over 26,000 backers. This feat makes it the most backed game on Fig ever, and it’s only the third title in the past year to hit this level of financial backing through fans.
UPDATE: Obsidian also announced it surpassed a new stretch goal that will allow players to have their own boats in the game!
The original game was one of 2015’s best RPGs by far, even in a year dominated by Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher III. A unique world, true decision making and character building, a faithfully recreated Baldur’s Gate styled combat mechanic – what’s not to love about Pillars of Eternity? Tyranny, the next game from Obsidian, came out last year also to rave reviews, despite a shorter gameplay time and a really evil storyline. Both games seem to have learned from each other and Pillars 2 just may be better for it.
What is Pillars of Eternity II?
Inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire improves upon the rich narrative, beautiful environments, and intricate, tactical combat that made the original a fan and critical sensation. With Deadfire, Obsidian will take players on a second fantastic journey to the world of Eora, this time to the vast, uncharted, Deadfire Archipelago where they will fight for their souls as they hunt down a god.
