PlayStation Plus Prepares For January With Persona 5 Strikers And More

PlayStation Plus subscribers now know which free games the online Sony service is set to release in January 2022.

An official announcement dropped last night, confirming that anybody with an active subscription to the PlayStation Plus service will unlock three new games come January 2022. This isn’t news to anybody who’s owned a PlayStation for any length of time, but we now know three new additions will include Persona 5 Strikers, Deep Rock Galactic, and Dirt 5.

Persona 5 Strikers

Persona 5 Strikers headlines the lineup this month and is the follow-up to the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite, Persona 5. Instead of rehashing old exploits, Strikers finds Joke and the rest of the gang on something of a cross-country trip, and it takes a very different approach to combat. Sidestepping Persona’s classic turn-based take on dungeon crawling, Strikers is more closely aligned with the hack and slash of Dynasty Warriors. Whether you’ll enjoy this change of pace or just decide to slip out to Junes for the new year’s sales is your call.

Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic is something of a gem in the rough. While I don’t consider it perfect, this co-op shooter is still a ton of fun with friends. Pushing players mercilessly into a route of procedurally generated cave systems, anybody brave enough to head down into the dark with fellow dwarves will face a mining operation beset by giant aliens hordes that want to eat your face. The usual mix of classes weapons, and approaches to combat, all while trying to mine some ore make this a tricky team effort that should only be tackled if you can handle the sight of giant cartoon space bugs.

Dirt 5

Where other racing sims sell pristine top-end sportscars gliding around a gorgeous silky smooth track, Dirt is a wonderfully mucky creation that looks just as good as any track race but isn’t afraid to get dirty. Dirt is a 2020 off-road racer that bundles in all the usual options for any great racing game. Featuring gorgeous global routes that don’t stick to the tarmac, an iconic roster of cars, and plenty of ways to play online and locally. Even better, Dirt comes in both its PS4 and PS5 formats, meaning PlayStation 5 owners can get the best out of their new system.

As usual, you’ll need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to unlock and keep these games in your library. Don’t forget to grab the December lineup that includes Godfall before it goes and find out more on the official PlayStation blog.
