Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story has just jumped screens from your TV to Steam Early Access as a new open world mecha RPG.
Anime, mechs, and alien invaders. No, It’s not another season of Darling in the Franxx. Instead, aNCHOR Inc has just announced a new open world mecha RPG based on the Muv-Luv anime franchise, called Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story. Even better, this new title is now available via Steam Early Access. Players picking this game up right now will find themselves thrust into the role of pilots, wielding Tactical Surface Fighters. These unique mechs are the only line of defense in a battle against the BETA, the familiar extra-terrestrial enemies from the Muv-Luv anime series.
For anybody who isn’t well versed in the Mu-Luv series and its more lineup of romance tinted visual novels, this new entry in the franchise is an action focused affair where players can actually pull the trigger over three different game modes:
- A Story Mode with a full story for players to enjoy.
- A PvP mode where players fight each other in their Tactical Surface Fighters.
- Frontier Mode, an online mode where all users inhabit a shared world, and each player’s actions
While I wouldn’t be surprised to see some romance in the works, the narrative side mixes RPG elements with the fate of Shirogane Takeru, the traditional protagonist of this series. While building the best mech they can from upgrades and battlefield loot, Shirogane will also decide the outcome of this war by picking a path and choosing his fate. PvP allows two teams of 4-players each duke it out online to prove dominance. While in a starting iteration during early access, developers have plans to add new features over time to turn this into its own Mech City Brawl.
Frontier Mode is a little more inventive. This game type allows all players to take part in an online world where they’re tasked with fighting the BETA invasion of Japan and with saving the world. Player choices and actions affect the balance of power between factions and each choice will change the state of war, giving everybody an option to push back the BETA. If you’re ready to get in the dam robot, check out the official Steam Store page now for more, and an Early Access discount on Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story.
