Krafton has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds has experienced massive community growth since the battle royale transitioned to a free-to-play game earlier this month. According to the dev team, PUBG:B became the top-ranked game on Steam on January 12th, and it saw a nearly 500% increase in players that “outpaced its 2017 growth rate”.

Other interesting factoids:

  • new user growth went up 537% in specific territories
  • significant increases in average playtime have been noted – 100% week-over-week on PC and 400% increase in playtime on PlayStation
  • new players are playing through new tutorials which are the most-played content since transition

In celebration of the recent milestones and the recent F2P transition, KRAFTON will also be hosting a “Check-In Dinner Event” to reward its most active players. Any player that plays the game for at least an hour between 4 p.m. PST on Jan. 27 and 3:59 p.m. PST on Jan. 30 will receive special rewards for each day they “check in.” On top of that, players who check into the game at least three times now through 3:59 p.m. PST on Feb. 17 can also earn exclusive Orbital Vanguard skins. Each week will offer a unique color variation fans can earn (Cadet Green, Cadet Pink, Cadet Yellow and Cadet Blue) of the Orbital Vanguard skin. Those who collect all variations will receive a bonus fifth color variation – Cadet Red
