Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the latest installment in the series unveiled by Insomniac Games during the PS5 presentation.
There aren’t many details currently known about the upcoming game. Insomniac Creative Director Marcus Smith discussed how the game taps into PlayStation 5’s ultra high-speed SSD and DualSense wireless controller in this deeper look at Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. You can find it in the video above.
In Rift Apart, the fabric of space-time gets accidentally damaged, resulting in dimensional rifts popping throughout the world.
The team is trying to build worlds that feel real with more objects, things to explore, enemies, effects, etc. This is something that couldn’t have been done on previous generations.
The frequent use of dimensional rifts would not have been possible without the solid-state drive of the PS5.
“The SSD is screamingly fast. It allows us to build worlds and project players from one place to another in near-instantaneous speeds.”
