Get ready to return to Umbra. Independent developer Snowcastle Games has confirmed that Earthlock 2 is currently under development.
Due to spring onto PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on an unknown future date, the follow up to the very first entry in the Earthlock series has just been announced by developers Snowcaastelegames. Set on the mysterious world of Umbra, this sequel is an expansive follow up on the classic turn-based JRPG-style experience of the original Earthlock RPG. Now, the same team that brought that world to life are set to take Umbra to a whole new level. While this adventure might still be stuck on its axis, players will get to explore more of the environment as Earthlock 2 grows into a fully formed open-world action RPG with complex interlocking systems that work together to offer players extensive freedom to customise their own experience.
This new degree of freedom should allow players to better get acquainted with both sides of Umbra. When the world stopped spinning on its axis, it left half this globe shrouded in darkness, and the other at the mercy of the sun. A small sliver of relief sits between the two extremes, and it is here that life can survive. This new story pushes players out into the wide-open world as they lead a group of friends who must set out to find and rescue their missing family members.
“We are so pleased to finally offer up this first tease of what players can come to expect in Earthlock 2,” said Bendik Stang, Game Director & Co-founder of Snowcastle Games. “We really want our next title to offer players a huge amount of replayability, customisation and depth, with incredible emergent gameplay possibilities. It’s been an exciting endeavour for us and we can’t wait to reveal more about the game in the future, please stay tuned!”
We don’t know a whole lot more about Earthlock 2 right now, but the team behind this cute looking new adventure has dropped a trailer for us all to glare at.
