Riot’s Project L Will Be A Free to Play Fighter

Project L, the 2v2 fighting game from Riot, will be a free to play experience when it blasts into action.

Riot has confirmed that the upcoming Project L, a 2 vs 2 brawler, will not cost players a dime to play, when it finally launches. The news that this will join League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra among Riot’s free to play library just dropped as part of a recent dev diary from the team brining Project l to life. The video isn’t particularly long, but over a 2 minute window, Tom Cannon talked briefly about what’s been happening in the studio and what to expect next.

The Senior Director and Exec Producer revealed that:

One of our goals is to remove as many barriers as possible a possible from you enjoying Project L

The result, a free to lay title that also touts accessibility to all skill levels, and hopefully other requirements that don’t mesh with a standard controller configuration too. For a look at this gorgeous new game, take a look at the developer diary above, but maybe check out the extra news too?

Introducing Illaoi

Alongside the development news, Project L also gave us a first look at Illaoi, the Kraken Priestess. This brand-new fighter is still a work in progress, but makes a stunning entrance at the end of the video. The official riot blog post has more, detailing the backstory to this statuesque talent. Illaoi is a domineering force in any fight, relying on her faith and testing the souls of others for this god of destruction. There’s plenty of detail on the development process for putting together Illaoi, but it looks like anybody picking the priestess will have a very capable fighter that uses an unstoppable momentum and the support of some eerie tentacles to decimate anybody unfortunate enough to step into reach.

Check out more in the official Riot blog post now, before Project L throws the first punch.
