RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM received a major content update today to expand and improve the first person shooter. Keeping with their commitment to the community supporting RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM, Tripwire Interactive and Antimatter Games have releases the update for free, introducing new maps, weapons, and, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam as a playable faction.
Keeping with history, the ARVN soldiers were equipped with outdated United States military gear and were trained by foreign military officers. Iconic guns such as the M1918A Browning Automatic Rifle, Thompson M1A1 SMG (a.k.a. Tommy Gun, Chicago Typewriter), M1 Garandm and more are coming to the conflict with this update along with historic conflict zones, Quang Tri and A Sau.
This update also includes three maps that were created as a part of Tripwire Interactive’s RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM $40,000 Modding Contest. These maps are Firebase Georgina – a daytime ARVN attack on a US position, Borderwatch – Australian offensive against an NFL (Viet Cong) hidden base, and Resort – a US Marine helicopter assault on an area controlled by NLF guerrilla soldiers.
Alongside today’s release, Tripwire Interactive has also released a short video diary centered around Joseph Tran, a voice actor for RISING STORM 2: VIETNAM, and his father, Thanh “Joe” Tran – a former ARVN staff sergeant during the conflict and a Bronze Medal recipient. From a historical standpoint, over one million Vietnamese served in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam over the nearly twenty years of the Vietnam War with a reported 250,000 lost in combat. Thanh coached his son in capturing the authenticity of this experience. You can watch the video here.
