RuneScape and Old School RuneScape Taking Out 2021 with a Bang

Jagex developers have pulled back the curtain on end-of-the-year plans for two of its signature MMOs: RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. Players will have plenty of reasons to long into the games to discover new content and to wave goodbye to some old features leaving in the near future.

In RuneScape, the long-running Duel Arena is going to be destroyed in a “cataclysmic community event”. After 18 years of PvP fighting, staking, and dueling, players will be bidding it a fond farewell ahead of the launch of Het’s Oasis, a new location packed with an all-new landscape, new skilling methods, and a pair of mini-quests to complete. The event begins today and will run for two weeks at which time Het’s Oasis will open for new adventures.

Kicking off today with the Oasis Restoration, the heroes of RuneScape will be tasked with the transformation of the Duel Arena following a cataclysmic earthquake that has destroyed the area. Heroes will need to work together to turn the ruins of the arena from a bloodthirsty fighting pit, where heroes have long staked their wealth in one-on-one matches, to a tranquil oasis. Heroes will work together to rebuild the area by taking part in daily tasks with rewards based not only on their own progress, but on the progress of the whole community.

Heroes who participate in the rejuvenation of the former arena’s lands will receive exclusive event rewards, including a new crocodile pet, a new title, desert-themed cosmetic armour as well as the comfy and resilient ‘Gators’ footwear.

In Old School RuneScape, players will have a chance to test their hand at the fifth and final general in the conclusion of the God Wars Dungeon.

The long-awaited PVM expansion can be battled in groups of up to 80, with the best players challenging themselves to take on Nex in smaller teams. Defeating Nex gives players the chance to obtain some highly valuable rewards, including Ancient Godsword, Zaryte crossbow, the iconic Torva armor set, and more. Every player who takes part in the fight has a chance of obtaining a unique item, with higher-performing players bagging more loot.
