Deep Silver has some bad news for eager Saints Row fans: Volition Chief Creative Officer Jim Boone has announced that the highly-anticipated reboot of the series is being delayed from its original release date of February 25, 2022 to August 23, 2022. The game is planned for release for PC via Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Boone wrote pretty much what you’d expect: “Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just needs more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine-tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.”
The team, Boone said, has been impacted by COVID and that developers underestimated its effect on gave development with everyone working at home. However, due to the game’s size and scope, those higher up determined the team needed longer to “perfect their craft”. This means more attention to fine-tuning without significant changes to the story or characters “or anything that we’ve lovingly imagined over the last few years”.
