Sea of Thieves announces cross-platform play and launch date news at Gamescom

Sea of Thieves

Gamescom week began last week for some as many continue to land today in Cologne for this annual gaming convention. Straight off the bat Microsoft developers RARE LTD confirmed that Sea of Thieves will launch with cross-platform play on XboxOne and PC.

Cameron “Firebomb” Thomas, Sea of Thieves Community Manager posted an update with full details asking the important question worth valuing in 2017 “Why would we segregate players in the first place?”

If you have been following Sea of Thieves at all you would know that RARE LTD has also been developing the game with Mixer as its main streaming partner and 4 Player Split Screen for even more interactive game play with friends. Releasing with XboxOne as a priority also brings Xbox Live highlighting how important it is to RARE LTD that players are able to play not only with each other but in a way that shares their game play as well as the game itself to wider audiences.

The next step for RARE LTD is to ensure performance balance between both platforms with PC players currently 4.5% more efficient meaning changes to design elements including guns making cross-platform even more seamless. Sea of Thieves will ship on PC and XboxOne Early 2018, on the same day for both Windows 10 and Xbox One. With Xbox One X launch this November 2017 RARE LTD will also be ready to make sure this device works seamlessly when it arrives!
