Developer Rare Ltd has taken to Steam to reveal that sandbox pirate experience Sea of Thieves continues to sail past important milestones. This autumn, the team shared that the game became home to over 25 million pirates, and now they’re rolling out the barrel again as Sea of Thieves surpassed 5 million units sold on Steam.
“With Sea of Thieves being our first game developed in-house for PC as well as Xbox, we’re absolutely delighted to see such a huge influx of new pirates starting their adventures since the game made it to Steam in June last year. No matter which platform you play Sea of Thieves on, it would never have had this success without the support of you, the players – so all we can say is thank you!”
Additionally, the Grogmanay event is here. Which means that it’s the time to get buzzed!
Raise your tankards high and toast the passing of another year! For this year’s Event, the Bilge Rats want the cheer to flow liberally so they’re offering rewards to pirates who complete Challenges while sufficiently lubricated with grog. Larinna’s also got a special Voyage leading to a cache of Bilge Rat-inspired fireworks – talk about capping things off with a bang!
The event runs through January 11th, 2022. Plenty of time to dive in and earn all the rewards! To earn and claim rewards, undertake Challenge Goals for this Event while suffering from the effects of at least three grogs. To earn exclusive Firework Stash Voyages, complete Challenge Goals and then purchase a Voyage from Larinna’s stock.
