Linkin Park’s League of Legends music video and single goes live on 24 September.
The newly reformed Linkin Park is about to drop the needle on a track that League fans will likely want to listen to. Rather than pass the mic to in game artists like K/DA or Heartsteel, Link Park will perform the 2024 League of Legends World Championship Anthem. Titled “Heavy is the Crown” the single is set to go live across video streaming services and music platforms at 8AM Pacific time / 11AM Eastern Time/ 4PM BST.
While you can set a reminder or tune in on YouTube for the event, the single is going to be something of an important moment for the comeback nu metal stars. “Heavy Is The Crown” follows the recent Linkin Park #1 single “The Emptiness Machine,” which marked their first brand new music in seven years. The song exploded to the top of the charts, tallying over 80 million streams as the band launched straight into a 6-date arena tour. Their 8th studio album From Zero releases November 15 on Warner Records. This makes the release something of a tricky second single, and swill see if the band have shaken off some of the angst around the new lead singer.
The World’s anthem is a huge centrepiece of the yearly gaming calendar, considering it’s just a song after all. Artists like Imagine Dragons, Lil Nas X, Zedd, and NewJeans have all performed for the annual League of Legends tournament. It’s an opportunity to bring the pinnacle of esports to a huge audience and brings the top teams from nine regions compete for the world champion title. The Worlds tournament begins in a couple of days. Germany opens the action on 25 September, with the final taking place in the London O2 around 2 November.
