Shard to be Completed by Grieving Friends & Co-Workers

Shard

Shard is a game that seemed as if it might never see the light of day. After the death of its creator, it might have gone the way of many unfinished games. But sometimes good things come out of tragedy.

After the death of creator Roger Morash and his wife, grieving co-workers and friends have come together to bring complete his dream. Releasing Shard will be a tribute to a fallen friend.

Shard in memory of Roger Morash

Morash and his wife (plus their two cats) died earlier this year in a home accident, seemingly ending the dream. However, artist Anita Tung and musician Kasson Crooker are keeping the project alive.

Shard seems to be eerily appropriate:

It’s a game about having the power to reshape the world. Two players go on a journey across dimensions, each acquiring different powers along the way. They have to collaborate to progress, changing their surroundings as well as their themselves.

With the assistance of developers from within the circle of the Morash’s friends, the full game will be released, though in what form remains to be seen.

Along with paying tribute to Morash, the all-volunteer team wants to see the beautiful world he created brought to gamers around the world.

It’s not only Shard’s capacity to serve as a tribute to Morash that is driving its continued development. Tung and Crooker both think of it as “a beautiful and original game, and [they] want other people to be able to experience it.”
