Sharkmob Studio forms with Former Hitman and The Division Devs

Newborn Sharkmob Studio has recently come into existence with Ubisoft veterans in control of development. They have come forward with some details about their first project.

Former Massive CEO and executive producer on The Division, Fredrik Rundqvist, is now heading the studio. Other Ubisoft alumni have joined him including technical director for The Division and Ubisoft’s Snowdrop game engine, Anders Holmquist; The Division’s IP director Martin Hultberg; art director for both the Division and Hitman, Rodrigo Cortes; and the Division’s game director, producer, and technical director Petter Mannerfelt.

“I’m not sure, but I think this is fairly unusual about Sharkmob, which is that we have five guys who’ve done games for ten to 12 years together, leaving together to start something new,” Rundqvist told Gamesbeat.

“We felt more safe working together again than we would have if we were just going off on our own. If you take the five of us, I don’t think it’s exaggerating that the five of us cover a 360 view of everything you need to know to start a company, start a studio, make a game, create an IP, be sure about technology, art direction, game direction, all that stuff.”

Sharkmob announced over the weekend its intention to launch a licensed multiplayer game for PC with aspirations to release on console also.

The team is based in Malmö, Sweden, and they are keeping the details of this game very close to their chest. It did confirm that this game will be based on a “cult classic”, and the plans to develop a franchise.

He went on to explain how they don’t want to make a traditional single-player game, they want to make a game that people can play together. A game that people will enjoy playing with more than just one person.
