SEGA has announced the re-release of its beloved classics Shenmue I & II to new generation systems and gamers. The series, which debuted on SEGA’s Dreamcast system in 1999, will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC later this year.
The Shenmue games tell a story of intrigue and mystery as Ryo Hazuki searches for answers to his father’s murder and to unlock the mysteries of an artifact called the Dragon’s Mirror. The series introduced players to the faithfully recreated streets of Japan and Hong Kong, China to search for answers and hone your skills in jujitsu. All of this takes place in a real-time open world with the day, night, and weather cycles, populated by NPCs that kept schedules of their own.
This re-release is expected to stay true to the original games while affording the modern conveniences of scaleable resolution, a choice of modern or classic control schemes, and an updated user interface.
Shenmue I & II are available for pre-order from the first-party retailer with pre-orders opening on Steam and other US and EMEA retailers soon.
