The next monthly update to Rare’s Sea of Thieves is setting sail for the game on April 22nd. The update is called “Ships of Fortune” and it features a way for players to engage more closely with a Trading Company of choice. Players can become an Emissary for the Gold Hoarders, Merchant Alliance, Order of Souls, or Athena’s Fortune. As a representative of the Trade Company, pirates will be able to “earn boosted rewards from their usual Voyages plus special cosmetic rewards for those who perform the best”.
Here’s how it works:
- Players head to the Outpost Trading Companies to speak to one of the representatives and to check out a nearby table. Donating a “hefty amount” will “prove you appreciate the privilege” of becoming an Emissary.
- Pirates can “hoist the Emissary Flag” aboard their ships and work to advance through five separate Grades for the Company. These grades might include finding and unearthing chests as a Gold Hoarder, for example. “The higher your Grade, the bigger the multiplier you’ll get when cashing in your haul.”
- Cosmetic rewards will include ship and character customizations that represent a chosen Company. Increasing the standing with a Company means bigger and better rewards with a competitive angle for those who enjoy that sort of thing.
