Earlier this month the Madden 2017 championship was held in Houston with the winner taking home a cool $75,000. Or did he?
According to a report at Polygon, Chris “Dubby” McFarland was hit with a 4% cut in his winnings due to poor social media behavior. McFarland has been known for racist posting on Twitter in the past. That was not the issue, however, with the $3,000 fine he has been slapped with. McFarland continued to do so during the event when he was warned to stop and posted more uglinessafter it ended. EA then stepped in and took action.
EA Takes Action Against Madden Bowl 2017 Winner
The following letter was posted via the Madden 2017 official Twitter account (@EASports_MUT) just after the fine was announced:

While McFarland was initially unrepentant, he has since “seen the error of his ways”.
Our Take
EA was absolutely right to slap a fine on McFarland. In today’s world, trash talking using racial slurs is absolutely not OK. Left to us, we’d have taken more of his prize purse.
