Sonic 3 Movie puts video games at the top of the tree this festive week.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 took the top of the charts this weekend, with an impressive release weekend. Initially heading to the big screen on 21st December, the third in the franchise of this series of video game adaptations raced up the charts , scoring the top spot , with a staggering $62 million domestic debut.
The total follow son from the first and second flick that brought in $57 million and $72.1 million respectively. While this isn’t the biggest opening weekend for the Sonic series, it is a wildly impressive start for a PG rated film. The numbers beat out the Disney release of Mufasa and firmly puts video games on the gifting guides for the end of the year.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an action-adventure comedy film based on Sega’s iconic blue furball. The latest in a trilogy of films, directed by Jeff Fowler, finds Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles battling Shadow the Hedgehog. The new adventure features the same high speed mix of comedy and hijinks as the previous entries in this spin off series. Drawing on characters from the log running Sega video game series, it includes the voice of Keanu Reeves and the threat of a powerful ‘Eclipse Cannon’.
