While we’re all still scrambling to get our hands on the next generation of console gaming, Sony is preparing to launch a successor to the PSVR with a new PlayStation 5 VR headset.
Touted in a recent PlayStation blog post, Hideaki Nishino of Sony Interactive Entertainment spoke of Sony’s desire to bring its VR offering into the next generation with another PSVR styled headset, gear for the PlayStation 5. Published earlier today, the blog serves as something of a heads up for anybody who already has, or eventually plans to buy, a PlayStation 5. The news means that not only will anybody lucky enough to beat the scalpers be able to go into VR gaming, but we should also see a huge leap in scale and quality for future VR experiences on the Sony system.
We’re continuing to innovate with our new VR system so that our fans can continue to enjoy the unique experiences that are synonymous with PlayStation. We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input.
Ever since Sony first followed teams like Oculus and HTC into the VR arena, we’ve seen the Japanese console giant as a stepping on point for VR enthusiasts. Titles like Moss, Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and Blood & Truth allowed anybody with a PlayStation 4 platform to get a decent 3D experience at home for a relatively small investment. The introduction of enhanced graphics, thanks to Sony’s newest console, isn’t all that is on offer either.
One of the innovations we’re excited about is our new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics “, confirmed Nishino.
While we barely have much more detail, and we know it isn’t coming soon, maybe this is the deciding factor for your next gen console purchase? Check out all the details on this PlayStation 5 VR headset over at the official Sony blog now.
