Space Punks is set to find treasure in that there intergalactic abyss as it enters open beta today.
Flying Wild Hog, the team behind the Shadow Warrior series, and Jagex have cleaned all the barrels and checked every bit of ammunition for Space Punk’s free-to-play open beta. Launching today and welcoming all comers, this massive milestone for the looter shooter in a cartoon cosmos is something of a big deal for this title. After an initial announcement and closed testing, all comers are welcome to try out the core gameplay and latest updates.
Seasoned veterans of Flying Wild Hog’s first ‘living game’ will be able to try out a bunch of brand new changes, as of now. There’s the chance to jump into a retooled core gameplay loop, with a new “Get-A-Job” feature designed for easy quickplay. The crafting system is also improved, giving a smoother crafting system tooling up with even more incendiary weapons of mass loot.
The new update also adds extra endgame content, called “the Crack”. This endless dungeon mode set deep within a black hole will see players jump from one dimension to another as they explore the unknown and attempt to reach infinity. Did we also mention the loot?
We’ve had a chance to chat with the team behind this mix of comic ARPG and looter shooter already and they seem plenty excited. In a statement released today, Michał Kuk, Head of Cracow Studio for Flying Wild Hog and Space Punks Game Director said:
“The launch of the Space Punks Open Beta is another huge step for us in the ongoing development of the game, and we’re excited to talk about everything new we’re adding for players both old and new to enjoy. The introduction of “the Crack” adds the first stage of endgame content that our Early Access community has been clamoring for. Combined with the revisions to the primary gameplay loop, “The Cracked One” update represents the completion of the central “core” of Space Punks. We still have a huge amount we’re looking to add to the game throughout the Open Beta and beyond, so watch this space!”
