Fans of The World Ends With You, a classic Nintendo DS title, have something to look forward to next year. Square Enix just announced a sequel, titled Neo: The World Ends With You.
Fresh off a highly successful Nintendo Switch port for the 2018 classic, Square Enix has just confirmed that fans of the urban fantasy RPG, will get a chance to delve back into the concrete streets when Neo: The World Ends With You arrives on both Nintendo Switch and PS4 during summer 2021. We don’t have an exact date during summer for this new adventure but we did get a little information out of Square Enix today.
Neo: The World Ends with You transports players to the streets of the Shibuya, where they will take part in the “Reapers’ Game,” a life-or-death battle for survival. Players will take on the role of Rindo as they explore the heart of Tokyo to uncover the mysteries behind the sinister Game in which they have been forced to take part.
Trailer Time
A trailer accompanied the new announcement from Square, giving players a glimpse of the bright 3D environments that await in this new world. There’s a quick overview of what appears to be an action combat system, that expands on the original’s 2D coin-op flair for combat. Throughout the cool aesthetic and quick quips, an amped-up audible accompaniment follows the game’s heroes as they battle through more than a few familiar locations.
While we do not have a ton more information, we’re sure that this is more likely to appeal to fans of eastern RPG than anybody grabbing a pair of underpants and jumping into Marvel’s Avengers. You can check out the trailer above and find out more on the official Neo: The World Ends With You website.
