If you think you are truly ready for the big chair then the new Star Trek Kobayashi Maru web game is ready for you cadet.
Launched by Scopely today, the Star Trek: Kobayashi Maru game is brought to gamers thanks to the crew behind the mobile 4X strategy, Star Trek: Fleet Commander. Something of an appropriate spin off, the survival simulator takes the classic command scenario from Starfleet training and thrusts players into a no win scenario, if you believe in that sort of thing.
Available now via the official website, this precursor to even sitting in on Bridge Crew is an irreverent choice-based interactive experience, that challenges players to choose their crew, take command decisions, and fight through the oncoming Klingon hordes. Clearly drawing inspiration from classic Star Trek titles, like Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, the retro graphics conjure up a definite OST vibe as you head out into unknown dangers on the edge of Federation space.
This turn based narrative scenario has only one way to win and thousands of potential failures. Pick the wrong choice and you’ll end up nothing more than space debris. With odds of winning at 1:10,000, the three fastest players to find the hack and defeat the simulation will win big prizes — including a CBS All-Access Lifetime Subscription and limited-edition Star Trek collectables. Adding to the nostalgia of Star Trek and to make failure fun, the game pays homage to the 1980s with incredible retro-inspired artwork and animation. Still think you’re up to the captain’s chair?
