Stardew Valley Multiplayer IS Coming…in 2018 – Patience, Grasshopper!

Stardew Valley will be getting the long-awaited multiplayer function but not until early 2018. You don’t need to fret, however, since beta testing will be in place later this year.

Stardew Valley Multiplayer

Once far enough in the game, “Robin” will offer to build three cabins on your property. One is yours, while the other two belong to farmhands that are played by your friends. According to the post, farmhands can do anything that the main player can do including forage, mine, marry, fish and more. Each has its own inventory too that can be accessed by the main player when the farmhand isn’t online.

Multiplayer will be accessible through a Steam “invite” from your friends list so there is no need to set up a multiplayer server.

Other things the team is considering:

  • player-to-player marriage is something they like and are considering
  • local multiplayer, split screen play and PvP are not in the works

We currently expect to be able to start a beta test at the end of the year for Steam users to help us test the game. Mod authors will be encouraged to update their mods during this beta period. Then, in early 2018 we will release it as the 1.3 patch on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Consoles will get the patch too, starting with Nintendo Switch. This will be a bigger patch than usual, so be aware that it will take a while to roll out to each platform.
