Fatshark has announced the start of open beta testing for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – Versus, the game’s competitive multiplayer component. The open beta is available for PC players via Steam and will run from now through September 2nd.
A new Gamescom 2024 trailer showcases the frenetic action as players take on an asymmetrical PvP+E experience. Four Heroes take on AI enemies alongside up to four other “special players” called Pactsworn. Matches take place over several rounds, with teams swapping roles at the start of each round. The twist? The Hero team is playing a regular Adventure Mode type game while Pactsworn players are trying to stop them.
Several new components have been added for this round of open beta testing.
What’s new in this open beta?
- Horde Ability – When fully charged and ready, Pactsworn players are able to rally a small horde, spawning a group of AI enemies fighting for them on the battlefield. The cooldown for this ability is a long one that can be shortened by damaging the enemy.
- Matchmaking – The new system should, on average, result in lower queue times, finding servers closer to you (resulting in lower latency), and more even games (for example, by trying to pair together premade groups). It will also allow us to more easily monitor matchmaking in real time and act quicker if we notice that something isn’t working as intended.
- Gamepad Support – Now that we are rounding up the core set of features we can finalize button assignments and focus on input tweaking to bring the controller experience up to par.
- Pactsworn HUD and UI improvements
- Ping adjustments
- Health Draughts and Medical Supplies
- Bug fixes, balance changes
