AGON by AOC is taking monitor design into a different gear again with the announcement of a new 32-inch Porsche-inspired gaming monitor.
As gaming crossovers go, Porsche isn’t the most obvious name but that hasn’t stopped AGOC by AOC. Following on from the PD27 that we loved, the PD32M is a brand new desktop option that mixes the performance of a top-tier gaming monitor and the aesthetic of an iconic symbol of autosport success. Available right now for around £ £1689.99 or local equivalent, the PD32M might cost a little more than most gaming displays but at this price, you can expect top tier specifications.
Specifications
The PD32M brings some respectable speed to the table with full 4K gaming (3840 x 2160) at 144Hz. This might not quite be the 165Hz or more that other AOC monitors provide, yet we’ve got to appreciate the limitations of HDMI 2.1 coming into effect here. You won’t be pushing past 120Hz, even with a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X presenting stunning 4K. The PD32M also adds in a blistering 1ms GtG response time meaning that lag is likely to be something entirely imperceptible to the human eye. Whether you’re hooked up to the DisplayPort 1.4, USB-C, or the two HDMI 2.1 ports the large 31.5” IPS panel is backed by a state-of-the-art Mini LED backlight. 1,152 dimming zones provide a ton of granularity, meaning we expect great high and lowlights with this display. The addition of DisplayHDR 1400 certification and a 1,400 nits peak brightness supports this while leaving most other options in the dust.
Design
Of course, nobody picks up a Porsche Design gaming display for the specifications. AGON has plenty of options for performance-focused displays. At the top end of the market, this display draws on a long motoring heritage and stands out among the plastic fantastic crowds.
“Our overarching goal was to create a high-end monitor with sophisticated design and superior technology. In 2020, Porsche Design and AGON by AOC collaborated on the PD27, a 240 Hz QHD gaming monitor, with a stand resembling the roll-cage of a Porsche racing car. With the second-generation gaming monitor, we developed the racing-inspired design even further. It integrates, for instance, design cues from the steering wheel and wheel spokes of a sports car,” says Roland Heiler, Chief Design Officer at Porsche Design.
The PD32M incorporates gentle slants, a trapezoidal shape, and mesh inlays to ape the design ideas of a Porsche while keeping the overall size as compact as possible. While this includes some RGB backlighting that should prove to be unobtrusive to the overall gaming experience, the stand is the most obvious feature here. The sandblasted aluminum cast stand frames the entire experience, taking some obvious design cues from a Porsche steering column. There’s something special about this and the PD27.
