Super Monkey Ball is a bonkers banana fuelled platforming franchise that is finally about to roll into the modern age. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to the Playstation 4, Switch, and PC.
Sega Blitz
Due out on 31 October for Playstation 4 and Switch, Sega’s Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz first made an appearance on Nintendo’s Wii console. This 3D platformer was the last full console release in the Super Monkey Ball franchise, a range of games that feature a group of monkeys and a range of screwball adventures. This particular title launched in 2006 and ushers Aiai, Meemee, Baby, and Gongon on a race to recapture the Golden Banana Bunch from an evil pirate. The bright graphics and frantic gameplay that players might associate with the Super Monkey Series plays out over a range of 100 main game levels and 50 super mini-games. Whether it’s playing a game of whack a moe, charging around an obstacle course, or boxing your friends in party mode Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz is a riot.
Now, thanks to Famitsu, we know this Super Monkey outing is getting an HD upgrade and a new lease of life. Coming to the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch first, it will be followed by a Steam release in December of this year. While this instance of the Super Monkey franchise is not the most beloved we can’t help but be excited. While the Playstation 4 and PC versions will no doubt feature fairly standard controls, I’m hoping the slightly disappointing Wii controls make a more refined appearance on the Nintendo Switch. We don’t have a ton more information on what the HD version of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD will get, the overall price, or much of the work behind the scenes. What we do know is that we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information as it arrives.
