Switch Sometimes Requires Spit Swapping Via Friend Codes

Switch

Nintendo Switch owners will be unhappy to hear that the necessity of exchanging codes to add folks to friend lists is still a thing. If you’ve updated your Switch, you’ll find a number of new features including friend codes.

Do all Switch friends need a code?

You’ll be gratified to know that not all of the 300 friends you can add have to have a code. If you’ve played with them somewhere or are in the same room with them, you’re golden. Even iPhone friends can be added without having to exchange bodily fl…friend codes.

The whole friend code thing is a bit odd given a January statement to CNET from the president of Nintendo of America:

…there are no friend codes within what we’re doing.

Polygon has reached out to NoA to get some clarification.

It’s not all gloom and doom though. Today’s update brought some really nice Switch search abilities too. These include searches for local users, friends you’ve played with, friend code owners as well as friend requests. You’ll also be able to block others or favorite friends to keep them in view on your list.

There are other functions brought online in today’s update. Be sure to check out Polygon’s write up of the patch.

  1. Just when I thought they were gone…

  2. Maybe they should see how Sony and Microsoft are doing it. Works great on both of those and they’ve been doing social for a while. There’s no need for Nintendo to reinvent the wheel.
