Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick and business development director Larry Kuperman have recently talked with PC Gamer, revealing that the System Shock reboot has returned after going on hiatus. The game is being scaled back to its original vision and will migrating from the Unity to engine to the Unreal engine.
Nightdive is shooting for a Q1 2020 release and says it has had some renewed interest from publishers following the scale-back.
“Our intention is to ship exactly the game that was promised”, said Kuperman, “with as much of the features that were promised as we can, in a timeframe that will get it out as fast as we can.”
It sounds like the development team realized they had become overly ambitious (No Man’s Sky anyone?) and decided to go in hiatus to get back to their roots. Nightdive is planning an update for Kickstarter backers in early April.
