Last Night Nintendo confirmed that it is bringing back a Wii Zelda classic with Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.
Last night Nintendo dropped a new direct to audiences update on what to expect this year, and we did get some Zelda updates from the Japanese games giant. While Nintendo Switch owners might have been waiting with bated breath for some Breath of the Wild information, Nintendo threw something of a curveball during the latest Nintendo Direct. Instead of adding updates to the most recent open world Zelda offering, Nintendo is set to bring back The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD to the Nintendo Switch on 16 July.
All The Extras
Originally a Wii exclusive back in 2011, the new version of Skyward Sword will arrive on the Nintendo Switch with a host of new, and upgraded features for fans of this age old quest. The original came with a whole host of motion controls, tied to the Wii’s interactive gyroscopes. Now those motion controls have been ported over to Joy-Cons, allowing players to hack and slash their way through enemies. The port also offers the opportunity for Nintendo to tighten and refine these controls, which they have confirmed is happening, while the graphics are obviously undergoing an upgrade. In a nice move for Switch Lite owners, the new version of Skyward Sword also includes a button only mapping, allowing anybody who doesn’t want to swing a sword on the bus to avoid the ire of their fellow passengers.
If you haven’t had a chance to try out the most recent mainline Zelda game before Breath of The Wild then you’re in for something of a treat. Many of the in game systems that you may have tried for the first time made their debut in Skyward Sword. For any of you that already know you’re heading back in and want to get adequately tooled up, there will be a brand new set of Joy-Cons released especially for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD release. To get a look at what’s coming, head over to the official website or take a peek at the trailer above for more details.
