The Most Anticipated Fantasy Games In 2020

Fantasy games

There are many exciting releases in the gaming world confirmed and speculated for the coming year, as well as the release of the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 late on in 2020. Whether you love discovering the latest slots, love problem-solving games or love building new worlds, there’s something for everyone, but 2020 is set to be especially exciting for anyone who’s into fantasy games.

Doom Eternal

Doom (2016) was a compelling reboot of the leading first-person shooter franchise, promising to “rip and tear until it is done”. But, fortunately for fans of the franchise, it isn’t quite done just yet.

Doom Eternal, set to be released March 2020, will see the return of the Doom Marine, the legions of demonic forces and enough firearms for a mighty war. This time around, the action will reach Earth and the human species are now under attack from supernatural threats. It is down to you to save Earth and mankind.

Doom Eternal is expected to give fans the best parts from its predecessor and more, with harder levels, even more weapons, and plenty more monsters. It will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as PC.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

In part, this game is especially highly anticipated because of its long-delayed release date.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is an action role-playing game, and the prequel to Mount & Blade: Warband, which was released almost ten years ago now, back in March 2010.

This game is set in a world inspired by the Migration Period from AD 375 to AD 568,  210 years prior to its predecessor, but the basic gameplay is largely the same as previous entries in the Mount & Blade series. The game centers around players building up a troop, undergoing challenging quests on an overheard campaign map and, naturally, a lot of combat.

Creators actually first announced Bannerlord would be made back in 2012. Fans of the Mount & Blade series have been eagerly awaiting its release since, and so its pretty understandable how and why this game is so highly anticipated for 2020.

Sable

Sable is another highly promising game that has had its release date delayed to 2020. With its beautifully crafted graphics, this coming-of-age fantasy tale explores an enchanting and mystical desert world through the eyes of the young protagonist.

The Moebius-influenced art style of the game is mesmerizing. The vast, arid deserts are packed full of an immense amount of detail and a captivating sense of mystery. The small team of creators at Shedwork have clearly put a great deal of time and craftmanship into the game, creating a world that is utterly spectacular.

Final Fantasy VII: Remake

This game has definitely been long anticipated by avid gamers. Ever since the PlayStation 3 tech demo teasing a potential remake, fans have been hoping for a return of the Final Fantasy VII world. At E3 in 2015, the reimagining of the classic PS1 JRPG was revealed, leaving fans feeling pretty excited.

What fans are especially excited for about the Final Fantasy VII Remake is that it’s not a complete remake, but more of a reimagining and is the first part of a number of new installments to the series, which aims to revitalize the complete story of the original game.

Many elements of the game have remained true to its original, such as locations, iconic battles, and the essential story beats. However, the game seems to have much more of a modern vibe to it.

The remake is set to feature new characters and events not seen before in the original game, bringing in new subplots to the official story. Although the remake has a more modern feel about it, it will also include several options to echo the ambiance of the original, including the choice to swap to traditional turn-based combat. This new reimagining of the game also features real-time combat and players will be able to level up different attributes of your party’s firearms.

The Final Fantasy VII remake is set to land on April 10th, 2020.

Diablo IV

Diablo IV was first teased at BlizzCon 2019. As of yet, there is still no official confirmation on when it will be released, but fans have been speculating and hoping that it might be within 2020.

From the looks of things, it seems that Diablo IV is going to be a much darker game than its predecessors. Druids shapeshift, animal allies and sorceresses are all involved in this dungeon crawler game series, which follows the daughter of Mephisto and primary antagonist, Lilith. She is the Queen of Succubi and the co-creator of the world of Sanctuary.

Continuing on from the previous Diablo games, the forces of both the demons and angels have been exhausted, which has disastrously allowed Lillith the opportunity to establish total rule over Sanctuary.

2020 is without a doubt set to be a brilliant year for the fantasy gaming community, with plenty of awesome releases to look forward to.
